Fifteen year old Michelle Anderson goes to a party with some friends and never comes home. Treated as a runaway her case soon goes cold and is soon forgotten by all but those who loved her. Years later Sasha Reynolds, a former neighbor of Michelle's, begins looking into her case and with the help of other extraordinary people to find justice for Michelle. A very moving memoir, I found myself astonished at the initial missteps of the police to treat Michelle's case as a missing child and not a runaway, horrified by the vile crimes the perpetrator committed against women and amazed by the persistence and dedication of a group of people to put this serial rapist behind bars. A riveting, page-turner, this book is a powerful read that I'm sure will stay with me long after I finished it.

Ms. Reynolds would make a fine detective. She has the skill set necessary to be successful and the enormous quantity of empathy required to fuel the drive to the truth. This book is heart warming and in an instant heart crushing. A tightly wound tale of a sociopath tearing through his life and many others' lives destroying all he touches. As a former homicide detective I know personally she got this story correct. It will be tough for some to read but it's really great that she shined a bright light on the monster Smith. Her involvement certainty helped put him out of circulation. By the way, I am acquainted with many of the people named in the book. Thanks for crediting my pal, Randy York, for his help. He was and still is a role model for me and a friend as well. Leslie Nassios is an excellent prosecutor and doesn't give up ever. Finally thanks for what you have done for the victims and their families. No price can be placed on the closure and healing they have received.

Similar Transactions tells the true story of serial rapist Larry Lee Smith, who preyed on adolescent girls. The author, Sasha Reynolds, became interested in learning more about Larry Lee Smith after he became a suspect in the murder of one of her son's classmates. As the story unfolds, not only do we learn more about Larry Lee and his warped personality, but we also learn about the many missteps in the original missing person investigation. The author paints a detailed picture of Larry Lee Smith, his upbringing, his perverted behavior, his sketchy family history, and his life in and out of prison. I won't spoil the ending, but rest assured that Larry Lee is unlikely to strike again, and we can all thank author Sasha Reynolds for her part in that outcome.

A truly captivating story accompanied by really good storytelling. It is truly sadenning what the people in this story have had to experience.
This is a well-written account of a soulless man and his crimes. I like how the author put herself into the telling of the story, her firsthand knowledge of what was occurring added a lot more depth to the account. This is one of the better true crime stories I have read as of late.

Very interesting and well written book about a serial rapist who ramped up his crimes throughout many years , always being released from jail to repeat his offenses . Very infuriating to see how often he was able to get out and harm so many others .

Wow! What a story! The author, Sasha Reynolds began her research for this book because she vaguely knew one of the victims. It led her to find others as she connected the dots surrounding the monster, Larry Lee. She has done an incredible job bring this story together. There were so many victims located in several different states but Sasha was able to put it all together into one big story. She deserves some kind of award for all the investigating she did! It really is incredible!!! I could not put this book down once I picked it up! It is a MUST READ for anyone who loves true crime. I don't usually like to read about serial killers but this is quite the exception! Ms Reynolds, I applaud you! Great book!

This book will keep you glued to it. It never loses your interest. The story takes place over many years, decades in fact. Yet it is well put together so that it flows smoothly. The bad guy is truly bad and the reader wants him brought to justice.

Sasha Reynolds weaves an intriguing tale of tenacity and sleuthing in order to find closure and justice in an unsolved murder of a 15 year old child. Happily for us all her investigative skills helped incarcerate a monster. This is definitely a must read for all of us who love to read about true crime and wonder why and how such creatures exist or came to be.

It was a great read! I loved the story and hated the injustice. I was so glad for the outcome of the verdict. The writer was a true warrior!

Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Sasha Reynolds has a fluid writing style and is able to convey a lot of information in a concise, elegant, and deeply compassionate way. Especially remarkable, given the number of people involved, is how Reynolds is able to portray the personality, story, and humanity of every single person involved. I felt like I knew these people, and I became deeply invested in their stories. The women involved were all just remarkable and deserve all the best in the world, and I'm so glad that Reynolds brought their story to light in such a powerful way.

I`ve read true crime for years ever since as a first year law student, studying criminal law, I became fascinated about the criminal aberrant thinking. This author added some new insight to my long study which is rare these days!

This is one of the most startling and unique true crime books I've read—and I am a voracious reader of the genre. S. R. Reynolds documents her investigation of the disappearance and murder of a neighbor, which involves years of detective work, networking, and research. Kudos to S.R. and the "Band of Sisters"!

I gave Similar Transactions a five star rating because it is very well written. The events were written in an easy to follow format that drew you into the lives of those involved. My heart broke with the telling of each victim's story. Although Justice was not served for Michelle- knowing the perpetrator will never be able to scar another life is a small consolation.

I have read many true crime books and this one was one of the very best. Easy to follow, clean, concise and very interesting. Good job Ms. Reynolds and all who helped you. I highly recommend this book.

The research paints a gruesome picture of a criminal, from past to present. If you couldn't put down In Cold Blood, or you were addicted to Serial, put this on your reading list right now.

"Similar Transactions" is an extremely well written true story which allows the reader to experience the many victims' tragic stories at the hands of a deeply disturbed individual. The writer's thorough research and passion for bringing justice and some closure to the numerous women whose lives were tragically altered by their encounters with the perpetrator is exemplary. I would recommend this book to my friends.

Despite the unsettling subject matter, this is a gripping and exciting read. I was impressed with the lengths S.R. Reynolds went to to get this story. She proves to be a bold investigator, tracking down key documents like police and FBI files, forensic reports, court and interview transcripts, even a medical and psych evaluation (how did she got her hands on that?!). She interviews almost everyone associated with Larry Lee Smith and his crimes and gets them to open up and tell their side of the story, putting a human face on both sides of these crimes. The more I think about it, the more I see just how cleverly structured this whole book is. I look forward to many more books by this author.

This was so well done, it's hard to imagine she could write anything as good again. Of course this was a very personal, almost life-long pursuit for her. Her diligence in remaining on the hunt is extraordinary; apparently she is as good an investigator as she is an author.

I don't know how to describe this book without including potential spoilers, so I'll just say this: Similar Transactions is a compelling page-turner that is scrupulously researched and beautifully written. It has been a while since I've read a book that produced physical symptoms -- racing pulse and all! I read a LOT, and this book is truly and honestly REALLY GOOD! It is a page-turner for sure. True crime is one of my favorite genres, and this book…is as good as any good author I've read. Have just finished it, and plan to go back and read it again, for the pure joy of a great story!

What a great read. A real page-turner. Completed the 400 pages in two nights. If you like true crime stories - you are guaranteed to enjoy this one. S.R. Reynolds reminds us of the difference one person can make in society - as she helps to bring this cold case back out and casts a spotlight onto true evil. Reynolds also reminds us how important it is for victims to have an "advocate," because unfortunately - the agencies which are charged with "protecting" us - are staffed by humans - and as such - for whatever reason - things fall through the cracks - and bad things happen.

Not your usual true crime story starting from the crime to the judgement, basically the way most murder investigations develop. Not a prime time television murder solved in 60 minutes. True crime reader? This is as close as you can get.

A unique true crime book in that the author takes it upon herself to keep tabs on a serial rapist (and murder suspect) when he is released from prison.

This is an incredibly detailed account of bringing a serial rapist to justice. I believe this work will bring closure and healing to his victims and their families. The telling of these stories are thorough and thoughtful. This is really the story of how a few passionate people made a difference. We are all a little safer for their efforts.

Easy to read, well written, interesting story. A young girl goes missing, written off by police as a runaway and that was the end of that. The perpetrator was free to commit further crimes. By chance interest was taken decades later and the case takes on new life. Hard to imagine how the mother managed to go on with no answers and seemingly no one caring. Restores faith in humanity that people will fight for justice. Will look for more from this author.

A truly inspiring story told in a gripping and engaging way. The fact that this writer actually worked on her own and solved this case for the authorities is absolutely amazing. Great book. Great story.

Wow. Not often I find a book so compelling that I can't put it down. This one I read in a few sittings cover to cover. The book is so well researched and so well written. I can't help but see this gripping story turned into a film! Sasha's background in both criminology and social work gives her excellent and unique insight into the mind and dynamics of both the victims and perpetrator - and the skills necessary to do the research and effectively tell the story of this real life murder mystery.

This is an excellent book. Once I started it I couldn't put it down. I found myself thinking about it during the day and anxious to get to pick it up in the evening. Congratulations to Sasha Reynolds for sharing this story with us and for fighting for Michelle and the other victims in this case. Thank you so much!
This is right up there with anything Ann Rule ever wrote. Amazing story.

This is one of the best true-crime books I've ever read! It catches your interest immediately, and doesn't let go until the very last page. The author makes you feel like you're Right There throughout the narration; it's exciting and innervating. After I read it, I bought three more copies to gift to good friends. It's worth sharing!
Expertly written along with compassion and tenacity! Kudos to Sasha and Bert for not allowing Michelle's saga to decompose with her remains. I would love to hear of any new developments and pray they exist. May God grant Anita the peace she so desperately deserves! I hope Mrs. Reynolds undertakes another saga in print.! Thank you S.R.!!

The read was simply a page turner to the end. I am so glad Larry Lee Smith is serving a life sentence. How he got there is what makes the story so special. Cowards and monsters like him need to be taken off the streets.

I just finished Similar Transactions. I could not put it down. Well written and impressive. Bravo!!!! Signed on to follow and am looking forward to hearing more. I’m sure hoping that Anita finds the answers she needs. I can’t even imagine.

This real life murder mystery, with all of its twists and turns, evolved as the author continued to research the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl in Knoxville, Tennessee. A fascinating...chilling...account of these events and a researcher's determination that the killer is found and held accountable. I could feel the fear of the victims, the frustration of the investigators... I highly recommend this book...you will not be able to put it down until the end!

I was surprised. A friend told me about this book. The cover says it all. A fantastic story everyone needs to read. The author does an amazing job of drawing in the reader with facts and strong emotion, leaving you attached to each victim and rooting for the incarceration of a terrible human-being. I hated to put it down. Highly recommend. I hope to see more books from S. R. Reynolds.

It reads very well. It has the perfect amount of suspense to make you want to read one more chapter. The depictions of [the victims’] encounters have a perfect balance of facts and descriptions of their accounts. Reynolds flawlessly captures the story in its entirety.

Just want to say, you did great! The cover is great and the content is well written. Please continue writing. You have made a good entrance into the literary world. Looking foreward to hearing more from you. I like the way you got away from the first person in your writing, and that you contributed so much to the case yourself. You lived it as much as I did. Thank you so much. I'll not forget you.

Congrats on your achievement — it takes a lot of perseverance to get a book done and published. I am recommending it to associates. Without your efforts, Larry would have done more violent crimes.
